It has been one full year since I got my new camera, so I thought I’d make a follow-up post.

This camera has been great!

In the previous post, I mentioned lenses and put a screenshot of the 100-400mm lens. I actually got that lens quite a while ago! I got it back in October and it’s the main lens I use now since the things I take pictures of most are usually very far away, usually planes :3

I’m still learning how to properly use the settings, as I mostly just use manual and just set the ISO and shutter speed. I tend to just leave the aperture alone but I probably should get used to using it, or just using a different mode.

Another thing I talked about in the last post was the microphone. Although I did buy a RØDE VideoMicro ii, I don’t actually use the camera for video, at all. So it was kind of a waste of money, but at least I have it if I need it shug

Zooming on this lens feels very good, although heavy, it feels nice to grip and is easy to adjust. I never use manual focus, but there is another ring for it further up the lens, as well as another wheel that can be assigned to do any function.

One thing that sometimes gets on my nerves however is handling. I primarily take pictures vertically, it feels better in my hand to hold the camera sideways with my right hand and let it rest on my left hand. But sometimes, my palm ends up pressing some of the buttons on the side, such as burst mode or other options that end up having to be reset. This is only very minor though as it doesn’t happen too often.

And speaking of vertical, I take every single picture in 4:3 (or 3:4). 16:9 feels too wide and 1:1 feels too small. I also take pictures in both RAW and JPG at the same time. This lets me quickly review photos in JPG, delete the ones I don’t like, and then run a script to delete the RAW files that don’t have a matching JPG. The JPGs are taken at a smaller resolution, meanwhile the RAWs are taken at the biggest.

As for editing, I don’t do much other than increase the saturation, put on a denoiser, and sometimes remove some dirt from the lens. Sometimes I play around with contrast and colour temperature, but mostly I just saturate the pictures, sometimes a bit too much.

Overall, this camera is fantastic, waaayy better than my old Lumix DC-FZ82 that started to slowly breakdown by the time I was thinking of getting a new camera.
